One day, one day lily

Sometimes there is just enough time to take photos of one flower.  Then the other world intervenes and you simply just don't get back into the garden.  So here it is.  One day lily.

The heat, the humidity, well, it didn't seem to matter to the garden

I went out early to water the new tree and all the plants transplanted last week.  It's supposed to rain tonight, so everybody else will have to wait a bit.  Then I noticed a few lovely day lilies.   So I had to take their picture.  And then that ornamental maple caught my eye, and then a fern, and then a coral bell.  If it wasn't for the combination of heat and humidity that caused some wayward drops of sweat to fall into my eyes destroying my ability to focus, I'd probably be out there still.

Come out, come out, wherever you are!

No matter how quietly I approach possible faery hideouts, I never seem to catch anyone at home.  But their dwellings are so enchanting.  Keeps my camera clicking.
And my heart skipping beats.

Small domed house and overgrown garden.  Could be.

A great place to shelter from the rain.

Did a wicked witch surround the princess with impenetrable shrubbery?

Tubular condos.  Perhaps.

What do faeries want in the center of their flowers?
More flowers, of course.

And every enchanted garden worth its mead needs a jester.

Just a sweet little rose bud.  Yeah, just.

And the ever-famous blue hydrangeas.
Do they look pink to you?
Hmm, seems the enchantment is working.

How to Tell if Your Garden is Enchanted

Sometimes you might think when looking at a particularly gorgeous flower that your garden just might be enchanted.  Well, flowers are the one thing that can be particularly gorgeous on any old day and in any old yard.  Just part of being a flower.  Not the best test for sure-fire enchantment.  But if you find any of these wonders in your garden, you just might be truly on your way to a case of full-blown enchantment.
Can your lavender call up a Monet pastiche for the background of its close-up?

Do your dragonflies stay when you tell them to stay and pose until you get just the right shot?

Do your ornamental onions show off their lovely white petals by framing themselves in black on a perfectly sunny afternoon?

And this is a big one.  Get ready for this. . .

Do your maple trees bloom?

Fudwick's First Harvest of the Season

Fudwick is so proud of the first tomatoes of the year and he wanted to share them with you.

Hey, Bwbachod, just give me a sec to show off these lovely tomatoes.

Come on, buddy, leave the hat alone.

Not the carrots.  Look at these beautiful tomatoes.

Back away from the hat!

See my tomatoes?

Garden Mayhem!!!

All the rain we had this month, over 10 inches, has made the garden grow and grow and grow. I went outside and stepped out of the gate to the garden on the hill and started to laugh.  I felt like I was in some sort of faery forest.  It was nice and cool, so I started in clearing out some of the mayhem.  Weeds two feet high!  Spent columbine, creeping stuff that crept too far.  By the time I was done I had a huge pile for composting.  And then I took some time to enjoy what the garden is all about.

The ranunculus plant is sort of leggy.  Not really a stunner.  But the flowers, they're what keep me from pulling them out, no matter where they seem to pop up.

Ahh, that ranunculus.  It's a keeper.
